Mythical creatures. Trolls

“And so I found myself on the mercy of three terrible trolls. And they all argued with each other about how they would cook us. Fry on a spit or just sit on each of us and crush into a cake. They argued for so long that the first rays of the sun began to look between the trees … Pooh! And turned trolls to stone!»Bilbo Baggins, thin. The film "Lord of the Rings: Brotherhood of the Ring"

Troll (Swede. “Troll”-“charm”, “witchcraft”, according to another version of “huge”)-this is the mythological creature of German-Scandinavian mythology. The definition is quite vague, because the trolls are almost as popular as orcs or elves and therefore there are a great many different descriptions of the trolls. For the most part, the trolls are depicted as large, above human height, ugly giants, covered with strong gray or green skin. But there are also images of trolls that are smaller than a person, such by the Danes saw them. The main distinguishing feature and the subject of the pride of trolls is the presence of a large nose. Moreover, the noses of the trolls have different shapes, for example, the noses of the “shoe” type (apparently, mummi-trolls came from them), “eggplant” hanging to the chin or even lower, for some renegades from Upper Germany, the nose resembles a mushroom mushroom and ends with a pork heel.

Traditionally, trolls are divided into two types: mountain and marsh (they are also forest). Mountains lead their pedigree from the giants, so they are very large, live mainly one by one and gather together only at the call of the leader, for example, for the start of the war. Swamp growth from a person or even less.
Physique troll resembles a person. His hands are as long as his legs, and sometimes even longer. Иногда на теле встречаются бородавки, наросты, бугры, а также мхи и даже деревья. Skin color can vary from bodily pink, to dark green and black. All trolls have good night vision, since they are more active at night. For the most part, the trolls are omnivorous, but give preference to meat, which easily breaks with powerful fangs, which sometimes stick out from the jaw.
On the part of the wool cover, the trolls are very different. Some are bald or by a bunch of hair on their heads (which is usually braided into a mow), others are proud of a luxurious beard, and others are completely overgrown with wool, excluding only the face and hands of the hands. Moreover, this is in no way connected with weather conditions: naked trolls prevail in North Norway, and in Germany they have more than once met hairy.

2. The appearance

“When you talk about trolls, they probably stand outside the door and eavesdrop.»Old Swedish proverb

Legends about trolls originated in Northern Europe, for the most part in the Scandinavian countries, such as Sweden, Norway. But this does not mean that in other countries they did not know about creatures such as trolls. For example, in Germany, for several centuries, they believed that if there was some kind of dirty tricks, trolls are certainly involved in it. But most of the mention of trolls in Norway, in which the image of a classic troll was formed. These creatures penetrated almost all spheres of culture of this country. There is not a single souvenir store where there were no troll figures, but the numerous rocks and mountain massifs that Norway are rich in, the name often contains mentions of trolls, because people say that these are petrified trolls. For example, the National Trolls Staircase (Trollstigen), stretching among mountain peaks in the Norwegian region Westlanne, is one of the most popular attractions of the southwest of the country. A narrow route 106 kilometers long – an example of engineering art: a serpentine has 11 cool turns, bordered by low -stones with low fences of natural stone. In some areas, the width of the road does not exceed 3.3 meters. In Sweden, the Trollkyrka temple (Trollkyrka) was preserved, where, according to some reports, the victims were brought to trolls. Others, however, claimed that it was the trolls that prayed in this temple.

Moreover, the trolls that stamp from sunlight are mainly present in Norwegian mythology, while in other countries the trolls can calmly walk in the light of day. Another feature of Norwegian trolls is the presence of several goals, the number of which can reach more than 10 pieces!
But back to the genealogy trolls. The trolls are remotely akin to the Scandinavian giants (they are Yotuna), the tribe with which the gods of Asa, led by Odin and Thor, waged a centuries-old war, which was supposed to end with Ragnarek. Many trolls broke the alliance with giants; someone from freedom, and someone is just by the harmfulness of character. There are rumors that in the relatives of the trolls there are goblins, gnomes, kobolds; and several authors even claim that trolls are the descendants of people and giants.

From the giants, trolls got a remarkable force; Even if the troll is “only” from a person with growth, he can easily tear off his hand or leg with one jerk. The inheritance from the giants trolls went to the mind, or rather its absence. There are many legends and stories about the stupidity of trolls. However, individual trolls (those that are smaller – possibly affected the kinship with gnomes or other tribes) are quite capable of competing with the mind with a person.

3. How to defeat the troll?

“- And what exactly is your work? – My work is to kill any troll that violated the border and went to people. -In a sense, you are a real Norwegian hero. You don’t think so? – No, you are mistaken »Hood. The film "Troll Hunters"

Despite the fact that the troll has large size and growth, it cannot be said that it is clumsy and slow. Dexterous hands and great power help trolls easily climb trees and rocks. If you met the troll, it is better to run, and not hide, because the troll runs at the speed of a person, but can easily smell you with your big nose. If the battle with the troll still cannot be avoided, then take the following as follows: as they said, the troll has a very strong skin, but that is not all. Troll wounds heal very quickly. Little wounds of an angry troll simply does not notice, the average drag on instantly. And to apply the heavy you need to try very hard. Some stories say that injuries such as cutting off the limbs or even heads are not deadly for the troll, because they may well grow back. But there is one trouble -free remedy against trolls – this is fire, because the fire stops quick regeneration. There is information that the trolls scare away the ringing of bells or a cross, but only if it is used by a pious person. But at the same time, there is an opinion that a Christian trolls do not like the most and come into a frenzy if they learn Christian blood.

4. Trolls in the literature.

John Ronald Ruel Tolkien

“The trolls were not born by themselves, they were brought out by the eternal enemy under the cover of great darkness: he brought in a mockery of the enters, like orcs – over the elves” John Ronald Ruel Tolkien, annexes to the “lord of the rings”

In the most famous and popular fantasy world of Middle -earth, trolls are large and evil creatures that Morgot brought in the first era, as opposition to gigantic intelligent trees of entam. These trolls are stupid and evil creatures that are suitable only in order to carry severity, perform heavy physical work or fight. Their skin is thick, difficult to break through, and black blood. Middle-earth trolls do not have any developed social life, they talk in the black dialect that they were taught by orcs, and turn into stone in sunlight. However, not all trolls turned into stone. By the end of the third era, Sauron brought the races of trolls, which could calmly be in the sunlight. These trolls participated in the battle for Minas-Tarit.
There are more “intelligent” copies – “hobbit” tells us about them. It is easy to notice that these trolls have mastered with coherent speech, use fire, but otherwise – not thinkers by no means.

Robert Lynn Asprin
In a series of humorous novels by Robert Ascrin, only 2 trolls are found about the myth corporation: brother and sister, Corresh and Tanada. Corresh in everything corresponds to the canonical troll, except for the brains. He is very smart and intelligent, but for such a troll in the fantasy world there is no way to find normal work, so he took himself the nickname Big Graz and pretends to be a stupid smaster. But Tanandand is not at all like that. This is a very colorful and spectacular girl with green hair, and a very loving. He works as a hired killer.

Tove Janson
In a series of books of the Finnish writer Tove Janson “Moim-Trolli” the most original view of the trolls appears. These are small peace -loving creatures living in a peaceful pastoral life. Outwardly, they look like small humanoid hippopotams.

Terry Pratchett
In the flat world of Terry Pratchett Trolls are silicon creatures. Moreover, their thinking depends on the surrounding temperature, in the cold the trolls are gained almost overmo. They feed mainly with stones, although they can bite a person. Therefore, "the most valuable in the trolls is their teeth". They have them from the diamond. With age, trolls turn into stone.

Also mention of trolls are present in the works of Clifford Saymak, Joan Rowling, Paul Andersen, the poem “Per Gunt” and others.

5. Trolls in music

“Hey, troll gather on yol! Stop bending the spruce! Time to drink ale!"The troll is rotting spruce," the troll is rotting spruce "

The most famous musical works about the trolls are the old Scandinavian ballad “Herr Mannelig”, telling about trollin (three-toll woman), who was in love with the knight Mannelig and wanted to become a man and the composition of Edward Grieg “in the cave of the mountain king” as part.

Finnish, but Swedish-speaking Humpa-Folk-Black Metal, Finntroll, completely devoted its work to trolls and, in particular, the king of trolls Rivfader, which fights Christian people. One of the permanent participants in the songs of the group are also priests Aamund and Ketil, who from the album to the album receive injuries from trolls of varying severity. The lyrics of the songs of this group are warlike and cruel and filled with numerous battles with Christians who pursue and oppress the trolls.

Another group, already Norwegian, called Trollfest less militant than Finntroll, and focuses on a funny pastime of trolls, mainly violent booze. Their music is more rolling and fast, less gloomy than that of Finntroll.

Of the Russian groups, it is worth noting the folk-rock group “Troll Gneta Troll” and its permanent founder and leader of the Costume “Troll” Rumyantsev. Starting like a folk rock team, in the future TGE healed their music, adding elements of hard rock and throat to it. The lyrics of their songs are filled with various mythical creatures, funny situations and humorous characters, while without losing fantasy orientation. In the early albums of the group, a lot of attention was paid to beer. High -half speeches, songs and gratitude in writing the album were dedicated to him. The group itself calls its genre with a beer folk.
From the countries of the near abroad, it is worth noting the Belarusian Folk-Metal group Litvintroll, which combine in their work both texts in Belarusian and English. Litvintroll song texts, as a rule, have a fabulous or fantasy plot.

5. Trolls in games

Trolls are also present in numerous games on books (although in most cases from films). This is mainly related to the “Lord of the Rings” series and its game incarnations in The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth I-II ”. This beautiful RTS in real time, which with great attention to the primary sources: the same one. film and original books by John Tolkien.

6. Trolls in cinema

Here I would like to talk about one film, which is made in the genre of pseudo -documentary cinema about trolls. This is the film "Troll Hunters", which, not surprisingly, was shot in Norway. It conducts a story about three students who are sent to the most beautiful places of Norway in order to make a film about hunters and poachers. But as they act, they meet with a mysterious person who reveals to them a secret that the trolls are not a myth at all. These creatures live in Norway in places strictly designated for them. They even have their own government organization called SOT (troll protection service), which is engaged in hiding all the traces of the trolls and hide them from humanity. So, moving from one place of Norway to another, the main characters are making a film about trolls, falling into more and more dangerous situations.

I would like to note the production of a film that is not that original (the films “Witch from Blair”, “Monstro”, “Chronicle” are also used from the camera of the shooter), but made very high quality, because the guys are shot for semi -professional equipment. This film contains a lot of information about trolls and show different types of them. It can be seen that the people who made this film with great respect and love are both to the nature of Norway and its cultural heritage.

Thank you all for your attention!

“We want to protect the Norwegian nature … Some may like the power networks, but not to me … In Norway we are for electricity, but against power lines. There are not enough of them for a long time. There is trolls in Norway, so such lines must be constantly updated. Such things.»© Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of Norway, Oslo, June 25, 2010.

But in general, a cool article) is true, when I came in, I thought that it would be about Internet trolls again)

Just recently I learned about another group that devoted its work to trolls. This is the Spanish group Schwarzwald. Play a fairly standard, but very visible Folk-Troll Metal. In their work, the accordion, Vargan and all sorts of puffs are very organic and interestingly used. As far as I know, they have only one demo-record so far.

"Troll Hunters" is a very cool movie. Probably one of those that I love to review.I advise everyone to look.

Haha Swedes were right when compared with the Internet trolls.Although their stock is also not great "Azaza, Lalka, Sasai..»Well, you understand.
